Grace.
|
Grace was a schooner (?) that was donated to Columbia University specifically for research work, and on condition that Columbia keep her (do not sell her) for 3 years (a tax dodge of some kind). SOFAR was the ideal location for Columbia to store her, and she was used on a couple of occasions when the experiment
demanded no 'engine noise'. She was (after 3 years) sold, and ended up in a marina somewhere in Florida in 1962.
This photo was taken by Ants Piip sometime in the early '60s. The cabin cruiser in the background beyond the bows of Grace causes her to look a bit odd, but she was quite a beautiful craft.
Can anyone identify any of the occupants of the punt, or add to (or correct) the description above? Please use the 'Contact Us'
button above.
